A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to two months in jail for having a sex with a 15-year-old girl, a sentence that angered the girl's mother.
Prosecutors say Jaime Percival, from Bangor, Maine, was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to sexual abuse of a minor.
Percival and the teen had a sexual relationship from April to June 2011 when the girl was 15. The age of consent in Maine is 16.
He was sentenced to 18 months behind bars with all but two months suspended after he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor.
He must also register as a sex offender for ten years and stay away from the now 16-year-old girl.
The Bangor Daily News reports that the girl's mother in a victim impact statement said the sentence was too lenient.
The prosecutor defended it, saying it was in line with similar cases in which no force was involved.
